THE DIFFERENCE

We know the difference between owner and employee-managers

When the potential buyer of your company is a so-called “Trade Buyer” company, the lead negotiator will be an employee of the buying company. He/she will be starting from a position of, at best, bare understanding of your journey to him talking to you.

His role is to buy your company for his employers, who are also employees, for the lowest price possible, seeking any advantage to knock you down on price, or, worse, tie you into lengthy and tough target departure conditions.

For every element you raise which requires empathy, the negotiator’s permission to concede will have to be gained up through a chain of line managers.
